Before You Leap Blog #1

Here we go!

In Chapters 5 & 6 of Before You Leap, Kermit talks about setting goals for yourself, maintaining motivation, and fears. What are some of your personal, SLT, and school goals for next year? Also, what are some of your fears and how do you plan on facing them?

Please post in response to this prompt by June 28th.

Happy Blogging!

  1. Well Guys,

I suppose I will take one for the team and break the ice. So here we go, some of my goals overlap so we will see what happens.

    School:
    1) Get at least a 3.8 the next two semesters, preferably higher.
    2) Pull off an even more successful Rach Out! 2011 and try and have that benefit concert

    SLT:
1)Hit a home-run with an environmental component to Cabo
    2) Find a way to fun the Leadership Moreau trip, Anyone have ten grand to donate?

    Personal:
    1) Make it onto 2 more continents before December 2011
    2) Plan my West Coast roadtrip with my best friend Tim

As far as fears, I suppose my biggest two are 1) balancing all of my responsibilites with my school work and 2)taking ReachOut! to the next level without driving myself crazy. For the balancing act, I plan to keep an organized planner and make sure I plan time for myself. You know, time to do the important things like sleeping, eating, and kayaking a few times a week. I have learned that when you are busy you really do need to schedule yourself in.
For ReachOut!, I plan to work with the others involved and make sure we have fun. I learned last year that if we make it fun and not a job we all do so much better work. So I guess while I have fears, I am confident in my ability to confront them, and have thought hard on how I plan to address them.

The end! Now that wasn't that bad right? Now I expect other responses soon, I have another hour or so of Calculus and then I am going to Toy Story 3 in 3D...That is all

  2. Hello Everyone-

Well, I didn't know whether to believe it or not, but this book really is a fast read-which is what I need in the summer. And so here goes my list...

    School-
    1) Finally be able to declare a major after having taken enough classes. Right now, while taking my summer school classes, things are looking up.
    2) Earn a GPA of at least 3.8 & make the deans list.

    SLT-
    1) Plan and execute an awesome Day 7 that will live up to this years LeaderShape.
    2) Increase the number of applicants for next year by at least half of who applied this past year.
    3) Do my part to help make Reach Out 2011 better than the last.

    Personal-
    1) Maintain some sort of workout routine when I get back to school, as I have this summer.
    2) Maintain a general balance with school, slt, work, and anything else I'm not mentioning. For me, it seems the busier I am, the more organized.
    3) Make time to just chill or hang out-take a breather.

My biggest fear is failure. That may be an overused fear that many people will claim as their biggest, but it's most definitely mine. Of course its true that failure will only give you experience and make you better, but I still try my best to avoid it with a well-balanced life (which continues to be a personal goal).
Next to failure, I fear not doing a good enough job with my slt position with LeaderShape. I don't want to settle for doing an average job, but just as good or better than this past year's coordinator. I plan to know my binder well and the contents that will help me do well in addition to knowing when to ask for help if I so need it-while having fun all the while. :)

Aaaaaand CUT! There's my schpeel and I'm excited to read everyone elses when I get the chance.
